January 2007

Dear Neighbors & Friends,

What a great time to live in Sherman Hill! The urban renaissance that is emanating from downtown has joined the continued revitalization ongoing in our neighborhood. The new Alchemilla townhomes on 16th Street, the redevelopment of and additions to the Alegre building on 15th & Woodland, the soon-to-be built, companion Amalfi condominium building, the Olive Street Condos, and the historic homes that were saved from demolition and moved onto 16th Street are just the latest and most prominent examples. Welcome to our newest neighbors! Individual homeowners throughout the neighborhood continue to reinvest in their properties in myriad ways as well. In 2007 this trend will undoubtedly be continued.

In 1977, a group of urban pioneers had just such a vision for the Sherman Hill neighborhood. To this end, they formed the Sherman Hill Association, Inc. The purpose of the Association both then and now is a dedication to the restoration and improvement of our historic neighborhood, the enhancement of the social environment, and the encouragement of civic pride.

The Sherman Hill Association is made up of annual due-paying homeowners and apartment dwellers in the neighborhood. The intention of this membership drive is to ensure our continued financial support of neighborhood projects, maintaining an association office, marketing, publications, and maybe a neighborhood party or two!

Over the past year some of the specific accomplishments we have enjoyed due to the work and financial support of the Association include:

  • Historic streetlight maintenance
  • Scrub day coordination
  • Representation at official meetings
  • Quarterly neighborhood meetings
  • Planning and coordination of our "Doors of the Past" walking tour

Our neighborhood has come a long and wonderful way since 1977 and we should all feel a rightful pride of place. That's why we hope you will join or renew your membership in our neighborhood association and help us ensure that the special spirit of Sherman Hill will endure for years to come.

Please complete and return the membership form, along with your calendar year 2007 dues payment. Members who have paid their dues will be listed in upcoming newsletters.

In order to receive a complimentary Sherman Hill phone directory, please submit your dues by February 28, 2007. After that date, directories will be made available for $10.00 each.

Your neighbors and your neighborhood thank you.

    Sincerely,

    The Sherman Hill Association, Inc.
