A Virtual Walking Tour of Historic Homes
Sherman Hill is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and includes over 150 homes and apartment buildings in various stages of restoration. The area includes some fine examples of Victorian, Queen Anne, Italianate, Classic, Stick, and Flemish architecture dating from the 1870's through the 1920's in Iowa.
The Sherman Hill Walking Tour is one of Iowa's early fall highlight events. This annual tour features 8-10 historic home, many built in the 19th century. On this leisurely walking tour, you will be guided through homes in various stages of restoration. Proud homeowners and other volunteers, all eager to show how time and effort can bring back the beautiful craftsmanship of a previous century usually greet you. We hope that this virtual tour will entice you to come and join us for our annual walking tour of historic homes in September.
We'll be starting this tour on the steps of
Hoyt Sherman Place. This walking tour is always on,
regardless of
weather, with many stops along the way, you may want to
get that cup of coffee or tea now, then take your time to
